Mariah Carey is trying to stop fromer gubernatorial candadite (and current porn star) Mary Carey from trademarking her similar sounding stage name. Mariah allegdely believes people (probably even voters) would confuse the two.
 
Former Candidate Carey, whoes real name is Mary Cook, says she will not be intimidated by the other Carey who never ran for governor of California and will press forward with her trademark application.
 
According to ABC the former candidate said, “I’m ready to battle Mariah over this because I’ve been Mary Carey for a long time,” she said.

The former politician is also the star of films such as Adult Hollywood blockbusters as Double Air Bags 11 and Boobsville Sorority Girls. Carey started using the stage name Mary Carey in 2002 and ran for California governor against Arnold Schwarzenegger.
 
She filed the trademark papers earlier this year.
 
Mariah Carey’s lawyers sent Mary Carey’s representatives a letter threatening legal action if she did not withdraw the application.
 
ABC is quoting Robert Becker, Mariah Carey’s attorney that ”Mary Carey and Mariah Carey share the identical surname and have first names that are very similar.” He continued, “Confusion between your client and her Mary Carey trademark and our client and its Mariah Carey trademark is therefore likely.”
 
ABC also states, “Mr Becker also demanded Mary Carey use her name only for ‘adult entertainment’ and that she not sing or perform music. Robert Becker did not demand that Mary Carey not run for governor in 2010 when the current governor (and former Hollywood star) term expires.
